SF20 flash questions

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Three (actually more) probably stupid questions about the SF-20 flash. I am trying to decide on a flash for the M6TTL and these are the problems I have isolated.

1/ Can you use a warming filter with this flash unit, or is it even necessary? If so what warming filter can be used? How would the filter affect the flash output and settings, in manual and TTL?

2/ Will the SF20 work on other cameras, in particular the Mamiya 6? And if it will, any problems to look out for?

3/ What problems will I face using the SF20 with different films? For example, what are the problems using it with Velvia at say 40 ASA? And what problems might there be using it with Tri-X at 400 ASA?

My thanks in advance for what I know will be very helpful responses.

With fast film: Risk of overexposure - and there's no warning cue when this happens.

1) Yes, any filter can be used and it can be used either over the flash or over the lens. This requires no adjustments as the TTL circuitry will automatically compensate. But, IMO no warming filter is necessary with the SF20.

2) Yes, but only in "AUTO" or "MANUAL" mode, not "TTL" mode.

3) None. Again the TTL circuitry will autamatically expose to the film speed set on the camera.
