35mm Summicron lens hood

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Dear all,

Does anyone have comments on the lens hood IROOA and #12585. Which one is better for 35mm Summicron lens (8 elements)? Besides, are there any differences between #12585 & #12585H ?

Stefan, doesn't Stephen Gandy at : www.cameraquest.com/ sell them? Good luck.

IROOA is a "normal" cone type hood that will block a good deal of the viewfinder. The 12585(H) is a vented inverted cone that will not block the viewfinder at all. The 12585 and 12585H are identical.

If anyone is interested, I have a #12524 rectangular, plastic, clip-on lens hood for a 35mm Summicron. $50, postpaid.

I use the B+W #900 rubber lens hood (E39 thread) on my Summicron M 35mm ASPH. Works well and much to my surprise, no vignetting. Mind you, it must be a close-run thing, so I wouldn't attempt to use any filters in addition to the #900 hood.

You can get the hood from B&H Photo or here

i use the IROOA (wow, those caps were tough) on my 8-element and my DR (my shift finger hurts now, happy?)

I've had both. When I lost the IROOA, I didn't feel too bad, as I seldom used it. The 12585 is the way to go, IMO.

The # 12504 is the better lens hood for either 35mm Summicron or 35mm Summilux (both older formulas NOT ASPH). It is shallower yet slightly wider than the # 12585. It makes for a more compact package and still give good protection. FWB
