Today, May 18, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- saints whose souls are now in heaven:

Bl. Camilla Gentili (Italian, virgin, d. 1486)
St. Conval of Strathclyde (Scottish, archdeacon, 6th century)
St. Dioscorus of Kynopolis (Egyptian, lector, martyred by hot irons c. 305)
St. Elgiva of Shaftesbury (English, queen, widow, Benedictine nun, d. 971)
King St. Eric IX (Swedish, monarch, tortured and martyred by beheading in 1160)
St. Felix of Cantalice ["Brother Deo Gratias"] (Italian, farm laborer, shepherd, Capuchin friar, beggar of alms for 42 years, d. 1587 [incorruptible])
St. Felix of Spoleto (Italian, bishop, martyred c. 304)
St. Feredarius of Iona (Irish, abbot, d. 863)
St. Merililaun (British, pilgrim, martyred in 8th century)
St. Potamon of Heraclea (Egyptian, bishop, opposed Arian heresy, tortured and martyred c. 340)
Sts. Theodotus, Thecusa, Alexandra, Claudia, Faina, Euphrasia, Matrona, and Julitta (from Asia Minor [Turkish], innkeeper and seven nuns, martyred in 304)
St. Venantius of Camerino (Italian, tortured and martyred by beheading at about age 17 c. 250)
Bl. William of Naurose (French, Augustinian friar, missionary priest, d. 1369)

If you have anything to share about these holy people, please reply now -- biographical episodes, prayers through their intercession, the fact that one is your patron saint -- whatever moves you. If you are interested in one of these saints and want to find out more about him/her, please ask. Information is sometimes available on the Internet.

All you holy men and women, saints of God, pray for us.
God bless you.
John
