250d close-up filter(lens)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I just got a 250d close-up filter for my G2 and was wondering if it would work for my 28mm f/1.8 because they have the same 58mm threads. But I read that it should be used for 50-135mm focal lenghts. I would like to do some dramatic close-up wide angle shots with my elan 7!

See if I understand this: you have the EF 28mm f/1.8 USM, you have the 250D in 58mm, and you have the Elan 7.

By calculation, the 28/1.8 gives a maximum magnification of 0.16x by itself. WIth a 250D, you can get between 0.11x and 0.29x with restricted working distance between 25cm and 11cm.

Only you can decide if this difference is dramatic or too subtle. It would make sense that if you put film in the camera and shoot some pictures, you could quickly tell if that combination produces the effect that you want, and report your result.
