anybody about? I`m feeling fed up!

My head hurts! I`ve sat here for two hours trying to work out how to get one piddling little web page onto the www, and I`m sick of https and ftps and urls and and flippin combination of letters you can think of! Maybe I have just sat here too long and it will all look much clearer in the morning. (:o(

Just when I think I`m getting the hang of it, I come across another piece of jargon which I just don`t understand. The final straw was logging on to my new hosting site, to be faced with a completely new control panel with an array of buttons which look as though they could launch a pre-emptive nuclear strike.

Maybe I am over-reaching here. Maybe I should try something simpler, like learning Chinese, or try to really get to grips with some of these `imaginary` numbers which niggle me so much.

It also appears to be the monsoon season here in the `sunny` South - one gorgeous hot day yesterday and what do you get today? Torrential rain, and thunder rolling around all day! It`s clammy and I`m feeling ever so slightly crabby.

I have, sat on my desk here, a beautiful antique walnut box inlaid around the edge with thin bands of brass. In the centre of the box is an exquisite panel intricately inlaid with marble, jet, mother of pearl, onyx and other beautiful stones. Right now I feel like picking it up and smashing through my nice new LCD screen!

The alternative is to switch my computer off and go and have a large glass of Merlot. I know which would give me most satisfaction! {:o{

Hey,

We're (almost) in the Champions League, Dyer and Given have signed and Bobby is going to live forever.

Turn off the damn computer and enjoy the vino.

And... Cheers!

I feel your pain, Galaxy. Pass the wine! %-}

Hmmm.....morning all! (:o) Seems like I lost a little perspective there last night! Can`t say it looks any clearer this morning, weather or computer, but it`s amazing what a good night`s sleep can do for your disposition.(:o)

Morning Gal - bad day yesterday then? Sorry I wasn't around to share your frustrations last night - however, my input may have cost you a new jewellery box AND a new monitor!

Grotty cool day here yesterday, and the rain has just started this morning - still the lawns really need it. I was around on here last night, but it was virtually dead so I gave up at 10:30pm, went to bed and watched the Jonathon Ross show. He had George Best on, who was my real hero as a player, but who now I now find depressing to look at as he is the same age as me. God, I hope I'm wearing a little better than him!

ps: forgot to mention, I got a 'broadband' internet connection on Thursday and boy what a difference. Having said that, this site can still be pretty slow responding. The only thing is I can now whip through all the sites I visit regularly in about 10 minutes as opposed to about 45 minutes previously, and then I have to find something else to do. Life's a bitch!!

Clarky

it's wonderful isn't it, getting asked if I wanted to download an upgrade to some software, seeing the "18 minutes at 56k" warning and the file zooming through in under 30 seconds just makes you smile.

You know macbeth, I'm still finding it all slightly unnerving. The access/refresh rate is wonderful, but I kinda miss all the audio buzzing during the old 'log in' sequence. Also, the instant availability now excludes the 5 minutes or so going through 2 or 3 login attempts during which I had time to plan my session.

I guess it takes away a lot of the techie/anorak feel of the internet, and reduces it something more akin to the 'supermarket experience'.

Actually, my soft-modem was literally on its last legs, and this is a welcome relief from having to log on every five minutes or so.

Sod off you lot (nah, not you Gal). I can't get bliddy broadband up here in Edwin's Kingdom. (He can't even get a broad - Ed) I'm might be tempted to hoy a matchbox at the laptop if you don't stop it. Anybody knaa what ISDN is like? And yes, I know, it's not as good as broadband :-(

PS. "Big birds" Satellites are out of the question MacB.

Thanks Clarky, I`m OK now. I`ve been cuddling my cats (ask Dr. Bill, it`s good for you)!

One of the most frustrating things to me is trying to ask a question when you only speak `pidgeon` computer-speak.

BTW - thank you everybody for all the hints and help, I will get there eventually. (:o)

Hey Screach, don't fret, the difference is just like comparing your 28k to a 2.4k modem, if you can remeber such things. Be thankful you've got electricity out that far in the sticks

Why do you think I use a laptop? Great when the power fails - which is pretty often. There was a gy who made a fortune inventing a wind-up radio. Hmmm - now there's a thought.

Screach

Its all a wind up.

Well, at least my laptop doesn't take the p!$$. Unlike some who need double incontinence pants everytime they use theirs ;-)
