Vivitar 2800 flash and M6TTL

Does anyone know if I can use the Vivitar 2800 flash with the M6TTL, in manual presumably? Are there any other similarly compact and inexpensive flash units that will work with the M6TTL? Thanks.

Of course you can use a 2800 and in automatic mode as well.

I use the Vivitar 283 with my M6TTL. In doing so I am, of course, not making use of the M6TTL's TTL feature, but I already owned the 283, and wanted to use it until my budget permits the purchase of a TTL compatable flash. I would STRONGLY suggest that you contact the flash manufacturer before purchasing any flash unit, and inquire whether the flash might damage your M6TTL electronics. I say this because, when I contacted Vivitar, they told me that the 283 models made in China will not damage my M6TTL, however the Vivitar 283 units which are manufactured elsewhere will cause damage. (My 283 was made in China, so no problem.) Better to check than to risk damage to your precious M6TTL! -Ollie http://www.web-graphics.com/steinerphoto

Yes, I am very confused about which flash units may damage the M6TTL and why.

I would imagine that, in SOME flash units, a signal sent to the camera from the flash is of too high a voltage. In any case, why not put your mind at ease by checking with the flash manufacturer.

Or use one of those WEIN voltage regulator devices that slide into the hot shoe and limit the voltage to 6 volts. These are also recommended for studio strobes and location monolights. They also say to use them with auto-focus and digital cameras (when useing non-dedicated flash units).
