There is now an easier way to make VCDs from VHS. First, of course, you need a DVD-recordable drive (or at least a CD-rewritable drive). Then get a good TV tuner/capture card (such as WinTV/Hauppauge or from Creative). Then, download a "digital video recorder" such as InterVideo's WinDVR (make sure your TV tuner/capture card is compatible with WinDVR). Then, before recording, be sure you set your Record mode to NTSC VCD (or something like that), then with the proper input/output hookups you should have no problem recording your material to burn to VCDs. Creative Labs also now has something called "Video Blaster Digital VCR", a TV tuner/capture card/digital video recorder combo which you can get at places like Fry's (or even through Creative's web site at http://www.creative.com) for around $100--after taxes, of course. It's another way to record your VHS tapes and convert them to VCDs.
