Just saw in a dealers a cheap 2nd hand 21-24-28 viewfinder, so I had a look and quickly realised why it was cheap, the metal part that attaches to the hotshoe had come off the barrel part of the viewfinder and was dangling by a loose screw or something. I would have thought the Leica designers would have anticipated this with the many broken plastic finders around, and made this part stronger, perhaps as a one piece metal contruction?, Plus I didnt realise just how massive this actually is.

Answers

Unless you own at least 2 of the focal lengths and switch between them frequently the tri-finder is a white elephant. If a Leica B/L finder is unavailable the Cosina 21/25 finders are excellent as is the Contax 21mm.

I never had a problem mechanically with my 21-24-28 finder. I got mine when I finally was tired of the 21 CV finder falling out of the shoe.

Granted, the CV finders are nicer optically, but they just didn't stay put on my cameras after only a bit of wear. I wish the CV's had metal shoes. I'd switch back in a heartbeat!

For me the Tri-finder is a God sent. It accepts standard Leica diopters. So, for the first time, I get a truely crisp image to compose with when using a wide ange lens.
