Why is there a hole on Elmar?

I'm just curious to ask this question. What's the purpose of the small hole on the barrel of an Elmar 50 3.5? Thanks in advance. WP Cheng

To let the air out when you collapse it.

There is a screw that can only be reached through that hole.

I'm glad to hear that it's a hole - I thought it was just a defect in the chrome plating!

Does this also mean that the inside of the camera body gets really dusty when you use this lens?

Come on now, the hole is not that big.

Even a low-powered magnifying glass will show that there is indeed a tiny screw in the hole.
