Keown Probability Recedes

Our chances of prising Martin Keown away from Arsenal appear to be receding according to the following report on TribalFootball:

Newcastle United's interest in Martin Keown has forced Arsenal to accelerate negotiations over a new deal for the veteran.

The England World Cup defender is out-of-contract and is wanted by both Newcastle and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger. Arsenal are only prepared to offer the 35 year-old a 12-month deal, while Keown wants a two-year contract.

A compromise is likely to see the player settle on a one-year deal with a one-year option.

Newcastle are reportedly offering a two-year deal, but Keown is reluctant to quit Highbury. Arsene Wenger said last week: "I like to think I have 11 leaders in the dressing-room. Martin is certainly one of them. Of course I want him to stay."

He was never gonna go all that way North.

he used to play for Everton, so he's not averse to going North. I would like him in our team, but i think it's unrealistic on all fronts.

Swifty, that's not really the North :-)

Reports at the weekend said they offered him to us - so someones lying.

If he`s out of contract then I wouldn`t have thought Arsenal would be offering him to us - none of their business where he goes if he doesn`t sign on for them. More likely his agent offered him to us.
