Could you please tell me how much it should cost and where are the options to have the work done ? I have read some info on this page before but a major concern to me is time, how long will it take? I do not want to be without my camera for to long. Thanks Geo

Sherry Krauter did my M4-2 (be prepared, she hates 'em, then does wonderous things to them)

Her overhaul is about $200 including small parts. The real thing there... is what parts are needed.

Mine needed a shutter curtain, and new viewfinder frames (old ones delaminated and went poof)... which brought the price up considerably, but.. its smoother than the M6TTL, has a nicer rangefinder and frames too.

Camera repair in general is a laid-back business. Their attitude seems to be that pros have backups and for the rest it's just a hobby. Most repair facilities get volume work from camera stores and those big fish get fed first. The handful of Leica-specialized techs always have plenty of work from around the world and turnaround time is largely a matter of the squeaky wheel getting the grease. Unless you prearrange a specific due-date, you can expect your camera to be pushed to the back of the shelf again and again. The best policy is to have a backup.

George. . .Parts availability for older cameras will be the deciding factor. With that said, I have to say the turn-around time for my M6 with Sherry Krauter (Golden Touch) was less than 3-1/2 weeks including shipping time to and from. It was a simple CLA, nothing too fancy, I'm sure Sherry can do them in her sleep by now. Maybe she sees them in her sleep. Heh, heh! Frankly, I couldn't have asked for better service. I also have a backup M6.
