Telling Nicholas

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MATH Plus One : One Thread

Simply heartbreaking, or borderline exploitive? Did Nicholas's father do the right thing when he decided to wait to tell him his mother was dead? What about that wacky sister from the basement with the mail-order Ph.D?

Did you watch it?

I am sad to say I did not. I thought this was a Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas-related thread.

Can one of the cool kids clue me in?

We saw the advertisements for it, and looked at each other and said, "No way."

It just looked too heartbreaking. I tear up at the end of every Makeover Story, Trading Spaces, even occasionally during the Real World. I knew that I would sob through the entire documentary.

Was it the tear jerker that I thought it would be?

I didn't see it, as I no longer have HBO (sob) but saw clips of it on Oprah. (I figured I didn't do quite enough crying the night before during ER and needed to watch Oprah's tribute to the mothers who lost their lives on Sept. 11.)

It seems slightly explotative, but all documentaries do to some extent.

I'd watch it if I could.
