Conflicting Reports on Dyer

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

There are wildy conflicting reports on Kieron Dyer's injury in the press/internet this morning.

Some reports say he has not given up hope of going to the WC, and expects to be back in training within 7-10 days.

On the other hand at least one report indicates that in addition to the ligament damage, he has damage to the cartiledge that will require surgical intervention.

The truth? Who the hell knows?

5Live have just said KD has been given one week by SGE to demonstrate his fitness.

Frankly, I don't like the sound of this approach, and let's just hope for the sake of Kieron and NUFC that this doesn't now cause him to take undue risks with his long-term fitness in an attempt to make the WC squad.

I don't wish to read in 6 months time "....Kieron was adamant that he pushed himself hard while there was still a chance of going to the WC, and we just didn't feel it was right to prevent him. With hindsight this was a mistake, but we must now just concentrate on getting him back from Colorado and hopefully in nursing him back to full fitness - irrespective of how long it takes!"

Sound familiar?

The latest version on Ananova. And, yes, it all sounds a little bit desperate:

Agent: Dyer not out of World Cup yet

Kieron Dyer is in "intensive training" in a bid to prove his World Cup fitness, according to his agent Jonathan Barnett.

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson ruled Dyer out of his plans "almost for sure" on Sunday.

But Barnett insists his client has not entirely given up hope of making it on to the plane for South Korea and Japan.

He told Sky Sports News: "Kieron is trying his utmost to get fit for the World Cup.

"He said it's a little bit better than Sunday, he's going to have some intensive training and put his whole heart and soul into it, and if anybody can do it, he can.

"Sven has given Kieron until the end of this week, and I'm sure Kieron will do his utmost to go to the World Cup but he won't if he's not 100 per cent certain he will be fit to play.

"Kieron is very upset with life at the moment but he is a very determined young man and we need a great deal of work with him to get him right.

"He was crying on Sunday, he was devastated, it's everyone's ambition to go to the World Cup."

Barnett earlier say in the Daily Express that he and Dyer were considering suing Tahar El Khalej and maybe his club Southampton for the tackle which put his England place in doubt.

But Barnett told Sky Sports it was "not something Kieron and he" had spoken about.

His agent NEEDS him to move club. Best way is to perform in the World Cup.

Agents are wankers. The guy is crocked and should rest
