Did they dim the LED's on the Bessa R2?

Did they dim down the LED's on the Bessa R2? (compared to the Bessa R?)

The Bessa R of mine has LED's way TOO bright for my liking..In real dark scenes the too bright LED's ruin my night vision....Are there any Bessa R and R2 owners that have both; and can comment on the LED's brightness ..? (this is on the exposure meter's + and - LEDs in the viewfinder; for you non-Bessa people) Kelly

As far as I can tell the LEDs are as bright.

Kelly, are the LED red? Because, if they are red they will not ruin your night vision. Red is the color that does not destroy the retinal rods, the ones used in low light vision. That's why some instruments or dashboards (like compasses on boats) are lighted in red. Any ophtalmologist out there agrees with me?

Anyone actually try the Bessa R2 yet? I've heard some great things about it (but can someone comment on build quality, etc.?)

Thanks!

The color Red actually looks brighter the longer one looks at it... When doing variable star work we would quickly compare the red variable star to our AAVSO reference star chart...This data was sent to the AAVSO to be added to their reference bank.. The flashlights we used were small 2 AA types; with their bulbs red from being dipped in some mystery red lacquer..The inner observatory lights at Park College were red too..This was in the mid 1970's

Some red is ok; But if I ever locate the series resitors on my Bessa R's LEDs; the will be replaced with ones of larger resistance... (this will reduce the LED current) Kelly

Steve, I just got my R2 on Friday, along with the 50mm f1.5. I have not received any photos back yet. The lens does not focus closer than 3 feet, as you probably know. I am pretty impressed with the camera. The shutter has to be cocked in order to read the meter, which I don't really care for. The camera has a nice heft to it. No to get more lenses. I already have the 90 Tele-Elmarit and a 35 f2.8 Summaron. John

John; is your comment true? re "The shutter has to be cocked in order to read the meter" (on the bessa R2)

On my Bessa R one presses the shutter release 1/2 way ; and the bright LEDs stay on for 12 seconds..it doesnt matter whether the shutter is cocked or not; regards Kelly

Shutter has to be cocked on my M6, too. It's not a bug, it's a feature! You know from the veiwfinder if you need to advance the film.
