Stefan:

You mention on your ebay page that this lens was multi-coated while the original Leica was not.

Interesting information, where does it come from? I have visited Cameraquest on this subject and could not find any detail about it.

Have I missed a line?

Yes, the images are razor sharp, even scanned. Lovely.

Cheers. X.

It's me again,

I found the info, in fact your lens has been made for a Minolta CLE and I was reading the page of the Minolta CL.

This lens accepts the Japanese filter thread while my CL summicron takes only Leitz thread, a very positive aspect.

that 40.5 filter thread might look weird, but filters are available from minolta directly, as they still use this on their aps-slrs. though it is not very common with cameralenses, this size is often used for enlarger lenses. lenscaps are not easily obtained, but i supply three wih the lens, that should last a while...

is the lensthread on the summicron-c not series 5.5?

Yes Stefan, the CL lens uses a 5.5 serie filter which takes position under the lens hood.

When the lens hood is not used (I gor it with the lens but stored it away), the filter thread is Leitz E39, 39mm. I managed to find a 2nd hand yellow filter leitz at a reasonable price but no sky-light. So I put a 39mm Hoya 1B but it would not screw till the end (not big deal as long as it is secured on the lens).

My opinion is that a '73 lens even by Leica has not the rendering of my '90 lenses for the Leica R7. And this is the reason for the sky- light filter rather than UV one.

The CL was bought last week, I'm waiting for the first rolls of film I pu in it. Other than that, this CL camera is a great little camera, I like it, even if the meter (as the M5 does) requires a Brain Work to evaluate the light and the variations of light.

From the photos you have posted, this lens construction seems to be rendering very well the perspectives in architecture.

Regards. X.
