What focal length for Horseman VHR

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

Does anyone know how short (or wide) a lens the Horseman VHR camera will accept - and are recessed boards necessary or available? Thanks.

I am currently using a 55mm APO Grandagon on a flat panel with my VHR, and I'm pretty sure this is the shortest lens usable on this camera without resorting to recessed boards (which I couldn't find) and/or modifying the camera body.

Keep in mind that in order to use any recessed board on the Horseman you will have to hack at the lens shutter; this is something I didn't really want to do.

You should be prepared to accept some limitations; for further information please refer to: http://hv.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=007IaQ

Horseman sold their own 65mm mounted in a recessed board. Lenses below 90mm can only be used with restricted movements because of the drop-bead design. I have a 45mm mounted in a custom recessed board that used to be produced by Scott Bonnett, who is no longer in the business.
