Why no wave when we passed through Powburn about half ten this morning?

Thank your lucky stars we were in a bus with a gaggle of other dribbling pensioners, with ideas of fitness way above their capabilities, or you might have been lumbered with having to come up with bacon sarnies and cups of milk in which to dunk them.

Never mind, but. We thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed the walk from Wooler to Belford. The weather was absolutely perfect and the surroundings out of this world. A marvellous day ahl roond. You canna wack it. You jammy git, living among it.

There was no wave 'cos I wasn't there. I was sampling Edwin's Kingdon myself. I took the opportunity of the Otterburn Ranges being open and went for a drive all the way up the Coquet Valley and across to Redesdale.

I hadn't realised that you are still allowed over there. And it was well worth it. Some of the finest views I have come across in this country. Magnificent. Mind you, it might be a bit different in the middle of winter with 4th Para doing their thing and their mates shelling the area from 5 miles away! But yesterday was perfect.

I've been up there myself Screach - across to Redesdale when the road's open, and walking in Coquetdale with the artillery practice going on. Very scary - ground shakes - you get a vague idea of what a horror shell shock must be.

Comparable to a successful semi at Old Trafford!

I can only imagine, Jonno. It's bad enough when the RAF practice in the back garden. But having been over there once, I'm determined to do it again. If the artillery practice is going on, then I'll just have to be a bit more careful!
