Leica RT-S/RT-M, do the slides pop in it?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

OK, so my P-150 pops slides, so I am wondering if the more expensive and according to Leica more advanced heat dissipation technology, allows for pretty much pop-free slides. I have the colorplan 90 as well, and does this lens work with the RT-S? Thanks RT-S or RT-M users.

Yes, the RT does pop slides. The Colorpan 90 needs an adaptor to go into the RT mount. The problem with the adaptor will be the lens is so recess into the projector that hand focusing of the slide is diffcult

I have the RT-s and Super Colorplan Pro. It pops slides just like the Kodak Ektagraphic I sold (and added 3x more money) to get.

To my knowledge all projectors pop slides. There is a debate about whether it is humidity or simple temperature changes that cause it. It is not a problem in a normal slideshow as you simply refocus, but is a nuisance for an automated show. A help in my experience is to pre-warm your slides (pre-pop them). I do this by placing the next tray on top of the projector (in my case the P2000) where it is warmed by the heat of the projector. Of course you can't do this so easily with the RTs. Alternatively you will probably find that viewing a tray once will pre pop the slides if you look at them again. But all these things do not always work. It depends a good deal on the ambient temperatures and humidity. Set the a/f for the initial slide entry focus (pre-popped) and then refocuse when it pops. This is much better than waiting for the slide to pop into focus in my opinion.

Thanks for the answers on how to deal with popping and the fact that basically all projectors do it. Here I was thinking about buying the RT-S for 12 or 1300 bucks, whew! I'm happy with the P-150 though, so that'll be my projector for a while.

Besides all that, there is big difference in the projected images on screen from the RT vs the P150.

Of that I'm certain. Maybe after buying more important items (24mm M lens, &/or a Canon slide/film scanner) I'll get the RT-S. Thanks again...
