More speculation

In Denmark the word is that Robson is after Dennis Rommedahl, a right winger with lightning pace. He is one of the fastest in Europe. The rumour is undoubtly coming from Robson desire to get Emerton, as he is currently playing in the rightside of the field.

Rommedahl is playing at PSV, and had Robson as manager.

Anyway, he would be a good buy and he is faster than Bellamy !

Vatos - is Rommedahl not of the 'headless chicken' variety?

The News of the Screws are leading today on the story that Martin Keown has been released by Arsenal and is talking to Newcastle. A deal could be agreed after the world cup. Bobby is also reportedly set to sign Titsup Bramble from Ipswich for 5M this week.
I'm quite positive on the thought of Keown joining. As a free he still has a lot to offer providing leadership in defence, and hopefully assist in the development of the likes of O'Brien and Hughes. Bramble is a more difficult call. He appeared to have a storming first season in the EPL but has faded this season. It could be a case similar to Bellamy's of a good player struggling to find form in a poor team, or, it could be a case of a guy who has had one good season and then reverted to performances more typical of his ability. Let's just hope that Bobby's judgement is sound on this one.
I like the sound of Rommedahl Vatos - with our priorities lying in strenghening defence I am uncomfortable paying 10M for Emerton essentially as cover for Solano. I'm all for adding depth but not until our first choice 11 are as strong as possible.

If we get Keown I'll be quite happy to get Bramble as despite his recent bad spell I've seen him play some good games. And the fact that he's Dyer's mate will possibly keep KD here as well.

The News of the World story:

GONERS: Keown can go to Newcastle and Adams calls it a day

ARSENAL'S Double-winning veteran Martin Keown is poised for a sensational switch to Newcastle as the Gunners say goodbye to three of their greatest players.

Toon boss Bobby Robson was offered Keown, 35, on a free transfer just 24 hours after he played one of the greatest games of his career to help Arsenal win the Premiership title against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

We can also reveal legendary Highbury captain Tony Adams (pictured right with the Premiership trophy yesterday) played his last game for the Gunners yesterday after deciding to retire from the game.

He will be joined by defender Lee Dixon, who also made his last appearance in yesterday's 4-3 win over Everton.

Unlike Adams and Dixon, Keown has no plans to retire and is furious Arsenal have made no attempt to offer him a new two-year deal — even though he is free to leave on a Bosman next month.

Newcastle are ready to pounce, especially as on-loan French defender Sylvain Distin seems destined to join Manchester City in a £4million move from Paris St Germain.

Keown's representatives have already held talks with Robson and hope to come to an agreement when he returns from England's World Cup campaign.

Keown's defensive partner Adams, however, has decided to bow out.

Last night Wenger said: "Tony's got a few problems at the moment. It's down to him and we have to respect his decision."

And an Arsenal insider said: "Tony will be quitting having helped Arsenal to the Double and that's only right and proper.

"It doesn't get any better than that, so his timing is perfect."

Adams will announce his decision soon and has expressed a desire to move into coaching.

I would not say he is in the Headless chicken category.

He is a very typical winger, stays close to the line and has develope alot in recent years. 12 goals in 30 matches this season for PSV. He would probably be the fastest player in premier league, even faster than Owen.

Paul - I wouldn't worry about Dyer staying, I think it looks pretty certain, especially now.

As for Bramble - he has had to cope in a poor and under confident side this year. For a young player he has had to carry alot of responsibility. I reckon he'd be OK.

I'm not particularly worried about Dyer staying, but Bramble coming might cement his position here.

Unless of course he rejects the contract offer, which might not be as much as he would want now the world cup is out of the question for him.

So, @rse will be without 2/3 of their central defence. I wonder who they will be signing to make up the shortfall? Perhas we should be interested in him as well. I bet it's not Bramble.

......well, the Arsenal are supposed to be interested in Distin! Perhaps they've offered us Keown so they can get their mits on SD! Wheels within wheels.

I'd rather have Keown than Distin, given the choice.

The Sunday Sun reckon a meeting is scheduled with Sylvain Distin's "people" this week which will make one final attempt to negotiate a compromise on his wage demands. If this doesn't achieve an agreement they intend to pull the plug, and look elsewhere.

I'd definitely sign Keown on a free and if we don't sign Distin it's not the end of the world providing we sign someone better instead. I would hope that we put the 4 million we save, towards the cost of Jaap Stam.
