Bargain M2 & M3 Leicas at KEH

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

In the past I have purchased cameras listed in bargain condition from KEH (Atlanta, GA) and I was quite happy with what I received. Has anyone had any experience purchasing the M2 or M3 models in bargain condition from KEH? As I am looking for a second body to complement my M6 classic, the KEH prices in the $700 range look attractive. Any thoughts on KEH or other reputable dealers would be appreciated. Dennis

I've purchased many cameras and lenses from Keh and have always been pleased with their quality.. also very easy to return for any reason.. I've purchased leicas and nikons bodies and lens combos, their rating system is tougher than I would use!!

They are usually easy to return something to if you are not happy with it. I'd still have someone pull the camera and get real specific with questions about the condition of the camera (peeling off vulcanite, obvious impact damage) as well as whether the finder is clean, clear ,and has a contrasty double image that still lines up, shutter curtains that aren't patched up or hanging up, a working counter, etc.

Although their prices aren't always the lowest, I've found KEH to be very honest & can recommend them as a source for good user M bodies. I purchased my M3 (single stroke, c.1959) from KEH by winning 1 of their occasional auctions on eBay. The M3 was rated "bargain" but is pretty nice cosmetically & far better than what I would personally rate as bargain condition. However, right after I got the camera, the shutter jammed up after a few test runs. I returned the M3 to KEH for repair on their dime (KEH also offered to replace it w/another M3 in similar condition), got it back a few weeks later, & it's been working fine ever since.
