Great season!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Trying to pull myself out of the funk over today's result. So starting a thread to talk about all the great things we've taken from this season. And great memories.

A Place in the CL for a start!

Bobby Robson still walks on water...even if he does occasionally make mistakes. I guess he's still part human. ;-)

Alan Shearer!

Hope its working for u ciara, nothing for me I'm afraid!

Look - it was a bad day. We can't let it overshadow the rest of season.

Best bits for me were:

The comeback at Leeds - quality. The comeback at Derby - mindblowingly exciting. Our win at Asenal - has to be the best though. Nobby Solano - an unsung hero this year. Brilliant. Bellers - for proving his critics wrong and giving us pace in shed loads. Shearer - for just being Shearer (and letting me get my photo taken with him 2 weeks ago!) Bobby - his brilliance.

Loads and loads more...............

Just feeling a bit flat at the moment. The season really finished after Blackburn and I was probably expecting too much today.

Oh, I'm still annoyed(very!) about today's result, especially as it's still all too typical of us. Just trying to keep a sense of perspective. This season, we locked up 4th place and qualification for the CL before the last match of the season. So overall it's still not as bad as the last couple of seasons where we couldn't even finish in the top 10, and only got into Europe through fluke sets of circumstances. So don't go jumping off any high buildings, gus! ;-)

I said the same thing to Gus Ciara - on the other thread. Today is disappointing not the end of the world.........

My favourites were the Spurs, West Ham and Fulham games, then those memorable draws against the bottom teams when we were top / second.

I don't think we have any high buildings ciara!

Just trying to add some reality here. For a bunch of no hopers we did extremely well this year, we did over achieve, no matter what some on here have said, however I never said we did not desrve to be where we are.

If the club wants revenue to come from the CL we have to get into the real comp, we will not do it with this squad.

LOL Gus - has the happiness gene passed you by mate?

-- Anonymous, May 11, 2002

Gus, are you Gav in disguise? ;-))

-- Anonymous, May 11, 2002

I'm glad all the flak is being directed your way Gus!

Not at all Lynda, but football is the most important thing to me after my family, they say they come second!

Nothing annoys me more than a bad performance. Even getting beaten by good teams is easier to take than being beaten by a crap one because we were not interested, or not playing well because we expect to win.

I played as a pro for 15 years, I can assure you when I pulled on the boots I played to win and played as hard and as well as I could, sure I had bad games, but never ever an easy one.

I share your feelings about the Toon but I just think we shouldn't let today overshadow a great season.

If you think this is bad, wait til the morn and I get out of bed! Mrs gus and the gusette will be hiding!

Well as Gav is not here...........

I'm used to this clarky, funny everyone at work thinks I am an arsehole, I cannot understand whats wrong with them!

Who did you play for Gus?

-- Anonymous, May 11, 2002

No one important, just here in OZ

-- Anonymous, May 12, 2002

Sheep Sh@99er Rovers? And I bet you played in Wellington, not football boots ;-)

Seriously - were you lot successful? I guess it was in the "upsurge" in Ozzie footy. I bet you enjoyed it, having stuck it out for lasted 15 seasons.

Played here in Perth, in the State League, we won the cup and league over that time, did the double once.

Played in the National League in its early stages, it only had teams from NSW and Victoria, plus 1 from Qld.

You can't teach an old pro new tricks ;-)

Don't you believe it Bud. I have changed from the old four steps rule, the no touchee back pass rule except from throwins and headers then only headers.

The only one I have had trouble with is the 6 seconds rule. These days it takes me longer to get back to my feet after a save!
