How does your Garden grow?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACountryPlace : One Thread

Well I have not gotten my garden completely in. I still have corn and more beans, watermelons, pumpkins, cantaloupes, Okra, southern peas, and winter squash to put in. How is everyone else doing?

Mine's doing fine if you like hydroponics. Actually the potatoes are fine-and mulched except for the ones I planted on the ground and put hay over them, they have mostly rotted, but, that's to be expected with as much rain as we've had. The peas are up that I re- planted among the rest that didn't get washed away. They other are slow, but hopefully they'll catch up. The broccoli/cab/caulif are in various stages of growth, I'm sure a couple aren't going to make it, but I have more to plant as soon as I can. Hopefully byt the middle of next week. The stuff in the raised beds are fine except the cats won't leave them alone, I put chicken wire over them, that helped some, The onions are already sprouting an dthey're not big at all, too wet, even in the bed. The leeks are up, radishes are ready and I finally got some good lettuce seed.

Only have onions and peas in. Had planned on putting out broccoli plants and planting radishes yesterday but other things sort of "took over". Today ALL the plants were going to be put into the garden and seeds planted and it rained AGAIN and a cold front is coming in. I can't wait to move to Missouri, ha-ha. I love the snow here but I WANT MY VEGGIES too.

Have about 50 - 60 tomatoe plants, tons of green peppers, hot peppers, squash, corn, beets, pickling cucumbers, beans, lettuce, cabbage, I forget to plant the onions, I wonder if it is too late. I am going to can this year. Didn't get to do much last year because I had to go to CA for most of the summer to see parents but this year I hope to fill those cabinets. Summer of 1999 I canned tons and tons of vegs, meat and all sorta of stuff.(thinking Y2K). I have gone though it all so I starting from scratch again. Debbie

Our garden is in and the squash are doing fine, getting little tomatoes on the plants and the zuchini is doing good. Peppers are iffy at this point and cucumbers have some weird coloring on the leaves, but other than that, all is ok here. We had tons of volunteer pea plants come up this year, so will enjoy picking peas in a month or two.
