Problems with Panasonic

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

There are those out there who think the Panasonic version of the 4 meg camera that they share with Leica is in fact 'nicer' feeling than the Leica. Supposedly the Panasonic is cheaper than the Leica and the only differences other than the cosmetic is in the software and the size of the memory card supplied. Be aware that upon talking to the Western Canadian Panasonic rep that the camera has been found to have visually obvious banding problems and has a much higher degree of noise at the 400 ISO setting. He thinks the cameras will be recalled this week from dealers shelves. I'll keep you posted on anything else I hear.

Steve's Digicam did not have a favorable review of the Panasonic LC5, see: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2002_reviews/lumix_lc5.html

To bad, I was getting really interested in the Leica variant. :-(

Why Doug, are you an Argus enthusiast?

As the local Leica rep openly admitted these problems I actually hope they've been corrected now. The most recent prints showed no pposterization or banding while they were obvious in the photographs that were circulated when the camera hit the shelves first.

A Leicasonic/Panaleica with five or more mp is in the pipeline btw.
