According to Talksport we have won the fight to sign him , hell be a nufc player by next week.

Hmm, lets say we sign Emerton. He is a right midfielder or defender, right? Lets also say we pay around £10M for him, that would make one of our two big summer signings. The place in our team that most need a new player is left defence. So Emerton and and defender on the left. Maybe Disin is supposed to be the answer in central defence, but I would rather see a new player there and a left defender.

It might be so of course that these reports about Emerton might not be true but do we really need him. Dont we need other player more then a extra player on the right, we have Solano and Hughes both doing a great job. Hmm...

it's all about squad cover

Arsenal played Stepanov and Luzhny thro Jan/Feb when others were injured, they coped with hundreds of suspensions by having good cover everywhere, like not missing Pires at all, while we died when Bellamy disappeared.

I'm happy to have two players everywhere, unfortunately we don't have it at left back or centre half, and need Shola (Cort ?) to grow to be Shearer cover

Ya, sure it is but we must fill up the places in the first team before we can add players just for cover, especially if they cost like £10M. But lets see first if he really comes here.

Our right-sided cover is not that great, Sudden. Our only real cover for Hughes is the perpetually-injured Griffin. In addition, we have no real cover for Solano, although Dyer could play there. So what happens when Solano resumes his international career as he surely will? How do we give him a rest periodically. What happens if he gets injured or loses form.

I'm not suggesting it's our highest priority, but imo we do need another good right-sided player in the squad.

Fair point, if we should buy cover for the right side then it should be someone like Emerton who can play both midfield and defence.
