Hi, I would like to know if it is normal that I can't get to the smallest apertures of my lenses once the extender (with ROM strip) is mounted on my R8 (the ring stops about two stops beforethe smallest value).I thought it was because my 280/2.8 Apo Telyt (1st version) didn’t have the ROM strip, but now I've tried with my 80-200/f4 Vario Elmar (ROM) and have got the same result. I haven't used it enough to realize if the exposures are correct (that is at different stops).
Just to complicate things I could almost swear that in some occasions, this didn't occur. I've tried to put the extender on the camera first or vice versa, at different f stops, but haven’t found the solution.
Is there something that I don't know or is it a problem of my extender (I bought it second hand) ?
Thanks in advance (especially for all the precious information I've found in the forum).

My extender is non-ROM, but have you stopped down the lenses fully before mounting them to the extender? If you don't, the diaphragm linkage will not work properly, giving the problem you describe.

Neil: I am confused about this. I have never heard that you must stop down the lens before hooking it onto the 2x adaptor. are you sure about this?

Yes - it's in the instruction leaflet for the Extender. However, as the lens will usually be wide open when using an Extender, it's not normally a problem if the lens is mounted at different aperture.

Neil, if I stop down the lens completely, it doesn't couple with the extender at all: something (I believe one of the two cams) interferes mechanically. If I mount the extender on the camera without a lens, the two cams are positioned anti clock wise in their slots and if I push the depth of field lever only one of these cams move (the other unlocks but doesn’t move): is this correct?
Thanks again.
