Broadband/Star/Verizon or Comcast or others?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Kentlands : One Thread

I wonder what experiences others have had with high speed internet access. My first attempt was with Verizon who informed me (after many delays) that broadband access was not available in the Kentlands because we have fiber optic lines! I would greatly appreciate knowing what experiences subscribers have had in the Kentlands with Comcast or Star or other high speed internet access services. I understand that Comcast subscribers have had problems with service outages.

Many thanks.

I have had very good luck [knockonwood] with Starpower.

I've heard good and bad with Starpower and Comcast. We have had Comcast for a while. Lately, I've had no problems. I'm knocking on wood, also!

Starpower broadband has performed very well for us. Customer service has also been responsive and easy to contact. Our only problem was the installation: the trench they dug destroyed a wide band of our lawn and flower beds, and it took us a while to get compensated.

We were one of the first on the block to switch to Starpower and get Cable modem access via them. Very pleased. My only frusturation is that when we go out of town it's hard to get access to the web.

Starpower customer service is excellent and they work very hard to get the connection right.

I'm curious if the folks who use Starpower signed up during the initial installation period or signed up at some point thereafter. I called them today to find out the cost of cable modem internet access only to be told that I'm not eligible for the service because my (Kent Oaks Way) address "is not in the database." I had to talk with three different people before they said they would send someone to check my address to find out what the problem is.
