just curious to know what you guys prefer..a single action model 1911 in .45 (or someother caliber like .40 s&w) or a double action or double action only in like a 9mm or a .40 s&w. This is mainly for self-defense and actually just plain fun shooting. I want to know what you like or not like about the types of actions and safties etc. Jon

1911 Colt, plain vanilla, just minor slick-up for reliability. No bells or whistles (just more to go wrong). Will keep running when most of the others fail.

Glock 22 in .40 S&W. When the sgit hits the fan, you still have 15 rounds in the clip and if this isn't enough, you better run like hell :)Val Sessink The Netherlands

Have used various but by far the most reliable I have ever used is the glock in whatever calibre, not very pretty and feel like a toy but they always work, they are easy to maintain, no safety to worry about. Simon.

so what about comparing the 1911 to the glock or your berreta bobby? Are there advantages of one over the other or is it just personal choice?

Glock 23, .40S&W. Fun to shoot, and, great for protection, holds close to magazine capacity of a 9mm, but, packing a punch close to a .45. Matt.

1911/.45 is one of the best for a defencive round and one of the most fun to shot, easy to load for and not hard to find parts make it a great pick!one of the few handguns where you can build as you go to get to whatever stage you want it to be at,bobby
