Good goal as well. His backside was nowhere near the ball when he scored!

We messed up there.

He played in a deep position making excellent runs which beat any chance for offside. Brilliant goal which Bellamy should take particular notice. I'd still rather have Bellamy than JDT but I'm still sorry for the way his career went with us. I think it was bad management of his abilities and unfortunately and expectant crowd.

Yup, Nick's correct - a terrific young talent who was totally messed around at SJP until he lost all confidence. It's nice to hear that he still has respect for the fans and has said nice things about The Toon to Brett Emerton.

The Toon crowd was very patient with him. His talent was grossly misused by a manager who understood only one system (Alan Shearer up front - everyone else in defence - Shearer injured? OK JDT - you be Alan Shearer then) TSM had a habit of attempting to shove square pegs into round holes - he was a complete idiot.

To be fair to Dogleash Jonno - when Shearer got injured he had no real choice but to play JDT up front as we simply had no one else. Great shame.

It was a question of imagination Clarky. We didn't have the big target man so it was essential that the system be changed. TSM was blind to the possibility of playing any other way.

My own suggestion at the time was to scrap the whole idea of a target man (not exactly thinking in the Einstein class here as we didn't HAVE a target man) and to use a front 3 of Pedro, Tino and JDT, who would have run rings around defenders all day. If he could not think beyond the idea of a target man then Steve Watson was his only possible choice, but to waste talent like Tino and JDT in such a role was criminal incompetence.

Good points Jonno - I'd forgotten that Tino and Pedro were around at the time. You have hit the nail on the head however - TSM had no imagination, indeed to be honest he seems to be distinctly short of grey matter, and lacking in coaching ability.

I've often wondered how he was successful at Blackburn, and I've concluded it must have been heavily based on Ray Harford's coaching ability. Dogleash was fortunate enough to inherit the Shankly/Paisley dynasty at Liverpool, and we all know how he performed at Celtic.

Dogs came in and Beado was finished before really kicking a ball. He never had a future after that. Age thing could never be used as he brought in Barnes and Rush. Beardsley was the better player of the three and getting rid of him was a major mistake.

..............but quite understandable under "the circumstances"??
