Buying 2nd hand EOS 3 w) PB E-1 - is this OK?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I am considering buying a second-hand EOS 3 in near perfect condition, with a Power booster e-1, that is a little older and doesn't take lithium batteries. All for $900. Is this a good deal? I am finding it hard to decide on this.

The power booster is an expensive addition. You can get the EOS 3 alone, brand new, for $889 at B&H. With the PB-E2 it's $1249.

So it sounds like a good deal, if you MUST have a power booster and the EOS 3 is mint.

The price is good, but without a reasonable warranty I would be cautious of buying anything used. KEH.com has a few used EOS 3's, PB- E1's and PB-E2's. All used gear from KEH comes with a 60 day warranty. Cost is a little higher.

A brand new EOS 3 with USA warranty sell for under $900 at B&H or Adorama. A used one in mint condition or reconditioned with warranty is about $600. In other words, $300 seems a bit high for a used PB E1. I've seen them used for $100-150. The original PB E1 for the EOS 1 couldn't use lithium batteries. There is an updated one that was released with the EOS1N that can use lithium batteries.

I bought a near new Eos 3 last year...with warranty for about $US615.00 and near new PB-E2s are going for less than $US300.00 on ebay. So $US900.00 is not overly cheap, but probably not too bad if the gear is really good. Cheers

Also, if you are in the US, right now there's a $75 rebate on the EOS 3 when you buy from an authorized dealer and a $50 one on the PB- E2.
