Because House can mean the family of Usher as well as the building, both of which come to a simultaneous and related end in the story. In any case "home" would have been lame.

When his mom was dieing Poe was under the care of Mrs. and Mr. Usher, who he named that story after, "The fall of the house of Usher." I have not read that story yet but since he did get its name from them and at the same time his mother was dieing (only three days before his father, David Poe, was found dead. So it could have something to do with the fall of his house hold and the first tragedy of his life.

He named it the Fall of the House of Usher simply because most of the family is dead, or is about to die, and the only ones who are left are Roderick and his sister. Duh! Therefore it inidcates that the house is falling, the famous house which was so lively is now dull and full of sorrow and emptyness.
