What happened to Gene & Julie and the radio station 95.7? It just changed overnight and I want to find where they went - I totally loved them!

-- MT (mtadamson@yahoo.com), May 08, 2002

Alice 97.3 is owned by the same corporate company or sharholders... (Bonneville, I believe but I could be wrong...) so I called the station and all everybody knows is that, one day they just got a notice maybe 1 or less than a day notice that everybody was going to get fired and did a whole change of management and radio team and music format. Now, I think personally, the music they play SUCKS big time but as the other stations tell me, that's normal in the radio business and plus there were rumors that their ratings were plummeting or not improving. Too bad, I also loved their morning show and even Diana Steele in the PM. Oh well...let me know if you find out what happened to them now.

I used to be one of the biggest Z fans out there and what actually happened was for about a year the ratings had been dropping and all of the staff knew about it but they thought they would just change the format to something that sounds like Alice @97.3. They were called on Sunday asking them to show up at a meeting at 5:30 pm on monday. When they got to the meeting they were told that they were all let go and "It wasn't you, it was us" is a quote from the meeting! and that they had decided to change the format like the other 2 stations owned by the company (KOIT and one other one). Michael Mann and along with everyone else was told not to show up for work that night or even anytime after that and thats when they just started playing music and saying "this is the Z music" and the next day at 12 they came on the air and announced it to the public by saying No Hype, No Silly morning show, all the Z cares about is the music and thats when it turned to The Drive! and so thats all that happened and if you have questions about where people are right now or how to get ahold of them feel free to ask! and yes i do still keep in touch with some of them!

How about Diana Steele?

You turned on the radio to hear your favorite morning show, and Gene & Julie were gone.

What happened?

Z95.7 management took the station in a different direction and fired the staff.

Now don't feel sorry for Gene & Julie-- since they were under contract, they have been on a paid vacation! They've had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with their family and travel. Although they really miss you and being on the air every day, they have to admit they're lovin' the fact that the alarm clock isn't blaring at 3 a.m.

All the expensive lawyers have FINALLY finished their paperwork and now Gene & Julie can begin their next radio adventure.

Gene and Julie are now in Atlanta at LiteFM 94.9. Just the way radio guys...one day you're there and the next day you're gone.

-- SlapHappy (SlapHappy@yahoo.com), May 14, 2003.

Diana Steele has returned to Los Angeles, where she was the #1 mid- day DJ on KKBT-FM (R&B) before she started at KMEL in the Bay Area. She now does mornings on Hot 92 Jamz.

I just want to state this out only for all of you who are wondering. Michael Mann works on a station called KWIN.

Gene and Julie are on 94.9 FM. Their morning show is wonderful.

-- Judy Conner (connerjudy@bellsouth.net), March 25, 2004.

Gene & Julie can now be heard weekday afternoons on STAR 101.3 in San Francisco! They aren't live, but at least their voices are back on Bay Area airwaves.

I also wanted to tell all of you this: if you miss Katie Mason, She is on 95.7 the bear.
