Sigma 300mm/4.0 APO macro HSM work with EOS-3?

Anyone know if this has problems with the EOS-3 or Elan 7?

This is the HSM version. $350 a bad price? For one like new.

Depends on when it was made. If it was made sometime after the introduction of the Elan 7 it should be fine, otherwise it will need a new ROM chip. My 1999 Sigma 50 2.8 Macro wouldn't work on my EOS 3 or Elan 7E.

I've heard - and I don't know if this is absolutely true or just another of those generalizations you hear on the net - that any Sigma HSM lens works just fine with any EOS body; it's supposedly only the non-HSM lenses which tend to have compatibility problems with newer bodies.

Hi,

for general information - I own a rather old Sigma APO 4,5-5,6/75-300 lens and it works flawlessly on my EOS 3. Even eye-control works and it never got an update. Of course it is only my travel lens beside several L-lenses.

Specifically 300/4.0 HSM lens does not on Elan 7 because the lens was discontinued before Elan 7 launch in Japan, and SIGMA Japan has fomally announced this defect in their website. You need to update ROM if you will use it on Elan 7. As for EOS 3, it depends on when the lens was produced.

It a common rule in Japan to check used SIGMA lens with a EOS body which you want to use, as many of used SIGMA lens do not work on recent EOS body.
