A Photographer Actually Shooting With a Leica

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Other than Grant Lamos, I've never seen anyone shoot with a Leica. Most people I see with Leicas have them swinging on their neck while they struggle with heavy shopping bags from the Armani Xpress and Tiffany's. While in New York last week (and out shooting with Grant), I happened on to a photographer shooting with a Leica:

Course it looks like she's seen better days...

Is that fungus on the lens?

-- Charles (cbarcellona@telocity.com), May 06, 2002.

Tut, Tut, looks like rain. Does she know how much moisture a Leica can take?

-- Doug Landrum (dflandrum@earthlink.net), May 06, 2002.

That's an Argus C3.

Could also be the new Digilux.

-- Andrew Schank (aschank@flash.net), May 06, 2002.

"Could also be the new Digilux."

Don't think so. That doesn't look like a Canon lens.

Jeff,

Would this image be another example from your "Leaf Shutter Adventure?"

Did you stop into ICP for the W. Eugene Smith "Dream Street" exhibit? Or stop in the Leica Gallery?

-- Glenn Travis (leicaddict@hotmail.com), May 06, 2002.

Jeff, did you get a chance to swing by El Museo del Barrio and see the Mexican Modernism exhibit? It has some nice photos by Manuel and Lola Alvarez Bravo.

Speaking of Leicas swinging around necks, a few weeks ago, I was at 42nd St near the ICP and I saw this guy sporting two Ms around his neck. One of which was in a really bright, shiny gold finish. Talk about jewelry. It was like Mr. T crossed with HCB. C'mon, it was one of you guys on this board, wasn't it?

I'd like to know which is real and which is illusion: the Leica photographer on the street or the statue?

-- Patrick Earnest (ephotopat@aol.com), May 07, 2002.

That's not a Leica, that's obviously a Contax (note the square corners & wide RF base)!

-- Chris Chen (Wash., DC) (furcafe@NOSPAMcris.com), May 07, 2002.

That's not a camera, its an inkpot.

-- Mani Sitaraman (bindumani@pacific.net.sg), May 07, 2002.

That is the new R9 due to launch in 2003. One step closer to perfection, the prototype above is shown without the 3.2fps motordrive which will be ready by late 2005. Leica engineers in Lisbon hope by 2006 there will be an R9.2 that will actually function correctly with that motor. The lens shown is a mock up of the next generation 35-50/2.8 zoom. This time Leica will bypass all middleman and release the zoom directly via ebay.

This is actually a Japanese service technician at work. As a consequence of today's technology becoming ever more miniaturised, they have decided to miniaturise the technicians as well. He's a real camerahead.

-- David Killick (dalex@inet.net.nz), May 07, 2002.

Oops, that was a boob, or rather two. SHE is a real camerahead.

-- David Killick (dalex@inet.net.nz), May 07, 2002.

Is it covered in that horrible ostrich covering (a'la the titanium?)

-- Kevin Baker (kevin@thebakers.org), May 07, 2002.

Chris: it could be a Minilux-in-reverse too. ;-)

-- Andrew (mazurka@rocketmail.com), May 07, 2002.

David, nice observation. As a Leica photo-person, did you also notice the clogs- a true German! Notice husband carrying around suitcase in background...

-- Patrick Earnest (ephotopat@aol.com), May 07, 2002.

Definately an M user. Notice how close the camera is the subject. cheers
