Computer question...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Style Homesteading : One Thread

When I sent an e-mail, I got a blue screen that read "terminal failure" - hit any key to resume, or something to that effect. I hit a key and the screen came back to where I was, butI then could not get on to any site. I finally logged off and shut the computer down. After it came back up, everything seems to be ok for now. This has happened twice now in the last 2 days. Does any of this sound like I could have been sent a virus? Thanks!

Annie, I had a spell of that some time back and never did figure out what it was. Does not sound like a virus, but more like maybe some glitch in the operations system. Are you running Windows 98? Do you have a Anti-Virus program running? I am certainly no computer wiz, so I may be way off base, I just know mine finally resolved itself and I never really knew what the problem was.

Thanks Diane, I was worried about inadvertently sending someone else a virus through e-mail. My computer is 7 years old, don't know how many years that is in "computer years"! :) This old thing is starting to feel its' age I'm afraid.

The mail you have sent me is virus free.

Thanks Diane for letting me know that. The glitch happened right when I was sending an e-mail and that worried me more than anything else. Feel much better now. Thanks.

Check to see if your comuter's air vents are unobstructed. They MUST have good ventilation to not overheat. My DH bumped the tower with his knee one night and it shoved up to the desks' back wall. Caused a fan ot over heat and stop which caused lots of problems. Dust with a vaccumn often so slots are not allowed to clogg with dust. Good luck.
