Refurbished Konica Hexar RF bodies

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I've read a couple of times about refurbished Konica Hexar RF bodies being available from "Cameraland".

So I did a bit of research and found out the following details:

(1)The URL is cameralandny. com, although they don't have anything on their www site about the cameras. You can use the www site though to contact them to ask.

(2)After emailing them, I just got the following reply (all prices in $USD):

We have 2 Konica Hexar RF refurbished bodies left @ $699.99 We have Konica Hexar RF 3 lens kits (Kit contains a refurbished body with a new 50mm lens, 28mm lens, 90mm lens and the HX-18W flash) @ $1499.99 All new 3 lens set @ $1699.99. Or New konica Hexar RF set (Body, 50mm & flash) @ $999.99

So, if you are looking for a new(ish) Hexar RF then get cracking!

I received a Hexar RF from Cameraland last week, and though the box has a "refurbished" sticker on it, for all intents and purposes it seems to be brand new. The salesman I spoke to when I ordered it said that it seemed like these cameras were mostly dealer overstock that Konica decided to unload as refurbished. If that's true, it's really a shame that the Hexar RF isn't selling better, because IMHO it's a fantastic little camera that doesn't deserve to slip into obscurity.

Can these be refurbs as in "the flange/film thing" has been fixed (by shimming the flange)?

If so, they might be preferable to a new one!

I think Dante Stella had some very good points about these refrubs Hexar over at the Hexar RF forum on Yahoo Groups.

I don't want to quote w/o his concent, however, the gist of it was that the refurbs might be models that Konica US cannot fix immediately, they send out a new camera, the old/soon-to-be-refurb one goes back to Japan. SO these refurbs might be ones that have been dropped, lemon copies, what have you, i.e. these are used cameras that had some serious problems with them at some point. They have been written off, accounting wise, and are now sold above repair cost = pure profit.

Bottomline, one might get lucky and get a no hazzle camera for a good price, or... Also, your "eBay" value for a e.g. 2 year old used refurbish Hexar...

Do these cameras come with warranty of any kind?

-- Andrew (mazurka@rocketmail.com), May 07, 2002.

The camera comes with a 1-year warranty from Konica, with the option of purchasing a 3-year extended warranty for $39.
