What are the similarities and the differences between Poe's romantic theory especially in regard to his poems:Anabel Lee,The Raven,andUlalume,and between the romantic theory ofColeridge(in regard to his poem The Ancient Mariner) on one hand,and the romantic theory of Wordsworth,on the other hand.

www.eapoe.org has Poe's literary essays on Coleridge and Wordsworth touching on some of these issues. Like any competitor Poe pointed out their shortcomings. Like Coleridge, Poe was interested in poetics and theory, had difficulty with finishing long works. Raven- Albatross of The Ancient mariner(Pym novel, Ms in a Bottle). Less sympathetic to Wordsworth's emotional contemplation of ordinary objects. Poe would rather release the inner spirit by penetrating the far away and fantastic, not remain stuck in a non-personal unsatisfactory Nature of the here and now.
