From one extreme to another.... a log cabin shaped cake or a space ship cake, depending on what his style is now.

I'll throw this "cake" idea in for you practical jokers in the crowd..it is good for adult parties, or a teen party..as the first cake, with a real one as back up....years ago, my grandmother, who was always a practical joker, got tired of hearing grandpa complain that folks made too much of a fuss over his birthdays....so she took a rectangular cake pan, turned it upside down and frosted it so thickly that candles would stand up in the frosting..she did this all on her own, so nobody else knew...we sang happy birthday and listened while grandpa said the usual. "Ah why'd you go and do all that cake makin' Mabel?"..he blew out the candles, and she gave him a large knife to cut the "cake"...instead of an easy slice, we all heard "CLANK" as the metal hit metal...it took several hits before the secret was figured out and we all roared with laughter! Grandma brought out the real cake and we kids had a ball licking the fake one clean off the pan. Just be careful you only do this with a family who enjoys practical jokes so you don't have hurt feelings! Grandpa talked about his "special cake" with a smile for years.

A couple years ago I made a cake for my daughter she loved.A Sunflower cake. I made a round chocolate cake, iced it with chocolate icing, then placed chocolate chips all over the top to represent the seeds. Then I placed Twinkies all around it to represent the petals. 22 twinkies I think. I picked up some fake bumble bee's from a craft store and put them on it. This cake would be fine for a girl or boy, was very cute when finished. It would also be cute for a family gathering. You could also ice the cake and put a smiley face on it.....use your imagination. It was fun, and easy to make.
