Reviving People Photography

greenspun.com : LUSENET : People Photography : One Thread

I have seen a recent decline in enthusiasm for making submissions to People Photography.

Originally it was intended as a "discussion forum," until we found out how to post images, and, now it is almost entirely an image forum...great!

I don't know why there has been a bit of a decline however. I think this is one of the most stimulating forums on the net.

But, get rid fo the spam!

I have seen a decline since 9/11, but I don't know why that event would be a major problem here.

Well, I am retiring from public school teaching on June 15th; I am buying myslf a very minty Leica IIIc with fine 50mm Summicron as a retirement present, to myself, from a good friend, and hope to "hit the street" with it.

I will post many images.

I will do my mest to revive this forum.

Please submit more photos to keep this fine forum alive.

I'm convinced that low usage is a result of few folks knowing about this forum. I discovered it accidently about 10 months ago and I immediately bookmarked it, and I've been lurking here, checking in twice a week since then.

Folks using this forum might want to consider ways to get the word out to some of the other forums, newsgroups and such.

I check the forum regularly and enjoy what pics that do get posted. I don't always comment since I don't necessarily have anything to say... If everyone does this, it looks like there's no interest. On some critique sites, I sometimes add 'viewed and enjoyed' or maybe a smiley :) just to register my presence and as a small thankyou for the poster. Maybe we can entice Jeff and Mike to start posting more (hint), that might kick start a few others although with the demise of some Lusenet forums, I was under the impression this was a goner too, maybe to reappear in photo.net or on a site being created by someone who's name escapes me!

also, I forgot to add, although I enjoy viewing 'people' pics, I don't take many myself, and of those I take I can identify many problems without having you lot tear them to shreds! ;) This ability to shred my own pics was learnt here from the quality comments that do get submitted here...

I posted here today :-)

Mike is out of town for a while, without Internet access.

Go for it Todd! I'm sure I'm not the only one who is looking forward to your results.

As for the low volume: I don't know the reasons for other people, but for myself I am busy finding a new job. Given the state of the economy, I fear I may not be the only one. Retirement sounds nice - enjoy it!

And I think there is always a decline in volume over the cold and wet winter months. Now that we are back into the warm and wet (! I'm in England :-)) summer months, hopefully the volume will pick up again. Already, there seems to have been more posts in May.

Take car all.

Allan.
