Loading a 120 film into a ss tank?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

I have just started building a darkroom setup. I have all the stuff have learned how to 'walk' a 35mm film onto a patteron super system 4 reel but can not figure out a 120 mm (brand unknown) film onto a stainless steel holder. This is hard to describe but I can slide a 120mm into the outer spiral and walk around till it forms a snail but that seems to leave the clip in the centre of the spiral redundant. Am I doing this right? Thanks for taking the time to respond. Chris

On the spiral reel you start by attaching the end of the film to the clip, and make your snail starting from the center and ending at the outer part of the reel. This is opposite to the Patterson reel proceedure (in which you start the film on the outermost part of the reel and walk it toward the center.) -Ollie http://www.web-graphics.com/steinerphoto

Do you know you can change width of the Paterson reels to suit 120? You might want to stick with the S/S ones but if you have trouble loading them...

Better than the Patterson reels are the Beseler reels. They are identical to Patterson but with the addition of large flanges at the film entry point which makes it much easier to start the film into the reel.
