Why is there an exposure lock on the M6TTL?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I was shooting today with my newly aquired M6TTL, and noticed that the meter "locks" if reach a certain point on the release button.

That is: If you meter on a dark area, do the match-diode thing, then move the camera to a light area the reading does not change until you first relax your finger on the release button.

This seems sort of strange for a manual exposure camera to me.

The electronics are from the R8 and so they also built in the R8 exposure lock. Mostly in preperation for the M7 I guess...

Does the word "zone" ring any bells?
