Any suggestion on where to buy Leica at good prices in Munich?

Are you looking for new or used equipment? I'll have a look at Sauter, Sonnenstr., near Sendlinger Tor. I bought a nice Leica II there, and they have quite reasonable prices. But you'll find a couple of photo stores in that area, enjoy your shopping tour!

Jean, can you give me the names of a few good labs in Munich that process chromes. I have a trip planned to Germany and I hit Munich about half way through. It would be a good place to process what I've shot, and save me the airport x-ray worry.

Sorry to intrude on your question, Marco.

I can also recommend Foto Sauter, Sonnenstrasse 26. It is a big outfit. They had some deals on discontinued Leicas that were interesting: a Leica O or a R6.2 for example. Check also if they have deals on Voigtlander lenses!

Jim, I'll recomend Foto Sauter as well for processing, although I just let them do PhotoCDs, it seems like they have a very good lab, too. I don't think you'll be wrong there ;-) Have fun, and enjoy your travel!

Thanks, Jean. I'll add them to my list.

Foto Sautter is definitely a place to go. This is where I develop my chromes: Good, very cheap and overnight-service. However, if you want something faster / more professional, try P7-labs in the Prinzregentenstrasse, they offer professional E-6 processing within 2 hours. Though the price is much higher, but still reasonable.

For used equipment try Sautter as well, but also www.fotoraritaetencenter.de, www.secondhandcamera.de and Foto Werkstatt Wiener in the Landwehrstrasse. These are shops where you can buy equipment unseen - I only had good business with these. There is also the www.photo-bazar.de and many others, but in my eyes there you have to know what you are looking for - these shops are not so good in help with Leica gear.

Altogether there are about 10-15 shops which feature used Leica equipment, from Standard to M6/R8, but don't forget taking pictures as well - there is much to see in munich. For some pictures have a look at my photo.net folders (not all are pictures from munich, but at least some). If you have further questions, just mail me separatly.

As for new Leica gear: there's an odd concept called Preisbindung, tolerated by German law, which allows manufacturers to dictate retail prices. Ignore it, and Leica cancels you from its authorised dealers list, so retailers adhere to suggested retail prices.

As mentioned some weeks ago, there's my "photo service net" for contributors to this forum: if you worry about X-rays and have a tight schedule, mail me and I'll reserve your films--even the more exotic ones. (Foto Sauter--which gets another vote with this post--even has Kodachrome in Super 8 format in stock.)
Before you leave, feel free to give me your films, and I'll have them developed and will ship them to your home address. (Please understand that I prefer to ask for advance payment for this.)

Besides X-rays, there's another reason to consider this service: German stores must not open on Sundays and official holidays, must close by 04.00h p.m. on Saturdays, and by 08.00h p.m. on Monday through Friday; plus, there's a number of odd holidays in south Germany (e.g. Corpus Christi). I.e., you may arrive on a perfectly normal day and find all stores closed, execept for a few with a government permit to cater to travelers. (And their Kodak Gold is older than the scotch on the shelves.)
