Lastnight was my first night on a new mattress, a Serta Perfect Sleeper firm plush top. It had been so comfortable in the store, and it's feels great to lie down on for 15 minutes or so but a few hours and $700 later, I am tossing and turning with back pain and stiffness. Tha mattress is guaranteed for 10 years, and they said I can exchange it as long as I'm trading UP.

Does it generally take some time to adjust to a new mattress? And is too firm not good for your back?

I'm not sure that I have ever heard a woman complain about anything being to firm in the bedroom.

Back pain can be associated with either a too firm or too soft mattress. Everybody's back is different and has different requirements. Mattresses don't tend to have much of a break-in period. If the mattress is too firm, you could always try adding a mattress pad or, for the ultimate in luxury, a featherbed.

Cin, a cheap fix just to see if you need extra padding is to get a foam rubber mattress topper. If that helps, then maybe the mattress is too firm. whatithink is right about the feather toppers, they're really nice.

I don't understand why someone who spends as much time in bed as you do would buy an inferior brand like Serta. Alas, it is true that the highest quality doesn't come cheap, mine cost $3600. :<))) Believe me it's worth every penny, I don't have to count many sheep before I am sound asleep and wake up feeling like a young man.
