What gizmo to hold 2 spare batteries on M strap?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I carry the 1.25x magnifier in the supplied case on my M camera strap. And also, rarely, an auxiliary brightline finder.

I'm looking for any ideas for an inexpensive, small securely closeable pouch to carry 2-4 spare batteries similarly attached to the M camera strap.

I don't know if they can be obtained but with my CLE there is a small plastic bit on the strap where there is room for 2 extra batteries (the small type or one litium) This is a very good way because you will not notice this tiny "bulb" on the strap

Mani, if you use the Abrahamson Rapidgrip, you can store loads of batteries inside the handle of the grip. Alternately, I have seen straps that have tiny pockets that allow you to store things like SLR viewfinder black out covers etc.

Wrap the batteries in clingfilm and tape them to the strap.

Check out OPTEC U.S.A. They make great straps, Hats for hoods and a gadget that attaches a roll of film to a camera strap. As all of their stuff stretches, I'm sure it could hold four or more batteries.

Go to a well sorted fotoshop and ask for the Minolta battery-holder for camera strap. It cares 2 PX76 and fits on the original Leica strap. In the past it came with every Minolta X-series camera. If you want a pic of it, mail me.

how about just take some duck tape (it comes in black as well) and just wrap it around. it will be smaller, hold it tighter than any "gizmo" i can think of. and there will be no noise of rattling batterines inside.

cheers,

Be careful to isolate the batteries so they don't make contact with one another.

AE fans insist that battery-dependence is not an issue, there's no hassle with carrying spare batteries.

Sorry, Mani, I love ya man, but I couldn't resist taking a poke.

Two words - DUCT TAPE

Asumming you're talking M6 batteries, not M7:

Leica used to deliver a neat little leather device with their R-series straps - more of a tiny wallet than a pouch - that wrapped around the strap and had two round holes punched in the leather just the size of x76-sized batteries. It is about 1/4 inch thick folded around the strap, and has a snap-fastener.

The strap/pouch and batteries were all a perfect match for Nikon FM/FE/ FAs as well, and I used them for years and years.

Try cameras stores with a good used stock - there must be some of these straps still around - the straps w/pouch should be around $20-25. And they are much more substantial than the current Leica M straps - wider and with heavier wire squiggles for attachment.

Thank you one and all for your suggestions :-)

Joe, you assume I have that M7 I priced out and reported back about. I wish... :-(

You *are* going to get it, though, right? :-)
