Do we really want Millwall in the Premiership

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Apart from another london trip, do we really want millwalls thugs going to place like Us, leeds, chelsea, City, manure and wham causing havoc as they go??

I for one hope they don't make it.

Are they really as bad as they used to be?

I hope Norwich make it, simply because it'll be an easier club to beat, and we don't really want another London side in the league as you said.

-- Anonymous, May 02, 2002

Didn't they get barred from attending an away match at man shitty?? I don't think they are as bad as they used to be, but I am sure there'll be a few morons wanting to keep "up appearances"

-- Anonymous, May 02, 2002

well thank f*** for that then.

-- Anonymous, May 02, 2002

Last minute winner for the Brummies - they're a bunch a hoolies as well though!

-- Anonymous, May 02, 2002

My landlord went along tonight [doesn't get to many football matches bless him] But he thought he'd show his community some support [I live in Lewisham].

And he came back with tales of racist, obnoxious fathers encouraging their racist, obnoxious sons to abuse players and fans. Every time one of Brum's black players took a corner or missed a shot, cue monkey noises.

Disgusted. And thank F**K they didn't get promoted.

Anyone who thinks it doesn't happen 'thesedays' should think again.

COME ON NORWICH sing you bloody canaries .....SING.

3 teams from B'ham in the premiership would be definate overload

-- Anonymous, May 02, 2002

Academic now, and sounds like your concerns weren't out of place.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

'Are they as bad as they were'

Ask the fifty policeman who got injured in the riots. Milwall and Cardiff should get heavy fines for persistant crowd violence along with docked points. These things to kick in next season so that they start with a handicap. Six points should do it.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Am I right in thinking we've never played Milwall in any competition, friendly or otherwise?

And to be honest, Brum and Milwall are fairly similar in terms of fan bother. Nice to hear some of the police horses were also injured. Twats.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

errr no... I have tales of Milwall. Lst time we won 2-1 (or 2-0) and I shared a train back with an 8' tall skinhead who "only goes for the violence". He claimed he was "a psycho from the planet Zarg"

Were we happy when our train arived at Winchester!

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Yes we played possibly the 2nd last competitive game at the old Den when we won 2-1 in our last promo season, Cole getting the winner. To get to the away end you had to walk along this pathway with a very high concrete wall with barbed wire on top - I think there were houses behind it. Millwall "fans" were on the other side of this wall constantly lobbing over half bricks and other missiles. Very nasty.

After the game I have never been held prisoner in a stadium for so long for "my own protection". We were then herded in a POW-style convoy flanked by mounted police to the station through narrow residential streets. I've not been to a game with such a menacing, intimidating atmosphere. My colours were concealed but as I was heading back into London I was on the same platform as many Millwall fans. The Toon fans were on the opposite platform and the hatred and vitriol directed at them had to be seen to be believed with several Millwall lads leaving the platform and looking for a way to get over there and start a ruck. Police everywhere guarding the platforms.

I don't doubt (or at least I hope) that most Millwall fans are ordinary decent people but they did have a VERY nasty element amongst them and it would be to the shame of the club and it's fans if they have made no progress rooting out the savages from their midst.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Well said Jonno. I have a mate who is a millwall fan who is a very quiet bloke and you could not wish to meet a more gentle man. When he gets inside the stadium he is very different, shouting and screaming and once he even kicked a chair so hard that it bust. However this is just his passion for the team and it would never cross the line into hooliganism or violence outside the ground.

As for the minority of others, they are the nastiest bunch of racist violent hoolies you would do well never to come across. I have been to the new Den with my mate and the scenes were as appaling as I remembered from the Old Den but the place itself is even more intimidating. The ground is surrounded by poorly lit winding streets and the platform for the train is a dark inhospitable windy station with an island platform ( the trains come in either side of one platform). If any trouble were to start on that platform goodness only knows what would happen.

I have been asked to go back many a time but have politely declined as it is never a pleasant experience to put it mildly. I was praying that they would lose in the play offs as I couldn't face going there to support NUFC and despite the fact that I would have been happy for my mate that they had gone up

Still at least the super baggie boys went up. A nicer atmosphere at an away ground is hard to find and a great bunch of supporters who love their team but have that Brummy pessimism that will lead them to expect the worst but revel in the best. You know the sort of thing three minutes to go 2-0 up and they are still saying "oh we'll throw it away from here" followed three minutes later by jubilant boing- boinging and comments like "i never thought we would win that game"

I my experience though Millwall fans have not destoyed the facilities at Sunderlands' home ground.Unlike you lot. I have never seen Millwall start trouble at Sunderland, unlike you lot.And yes I am fully aware that they have not bee to the ssol ,yet. Glass houses and stones don't mix.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

No, because they'll never sell us Sadlier or Reid if they are.

Bobby,rl dooley,if ever there was an example of Keegan-come- latelyness then your post is it. Have you ever played Millwall? Loads of times mate. Maybe you are just young,if so I apologise.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Supakev, grahamlaidler,if ever there was an example of bitter-makemness then your post is it :-)

I've said many times to many people when and how I started following United. Not going to repeat it again.

Still, I guess your own experiences of lower league football against sides like Milwall is far more extensive than ours.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Hmmm,Newcastle have not played Millwall since 1993. The same time that Newcastle boomed under KK. All the shit football and times that I have suffered/experienced is character building. All my collegues ,of any club, tend to resent the gloryboys who jump on when the going is good. Last on,first off. I bet you call it soccer as well.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Be fair mate, they haven't played Millwall since they were in the Nationwide so most of them wouldn't have been following the team back then.;oD

Millwall tossers kicked my younger cousin through a service station window when he was 11 years old and returning from his first away match watching NUFC v Rotherham (I think!)....met NUFC fans at a service station and picked on the biggest kid they could find....

I have loads of respect for them.......NOT....

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Iirc there was a magpie stabbed by them at a service station as well by Millwall.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Millwall fans have not destoyed the facilities at Sunderlands' home ground.Unlike you lot

The crap you continue to write in this forum beggars belief. "You" lot? I'd like you to identify please, if you would, which of us lot have done any damage to SOL. You can't accuse us of being vicars AND thugs at the same time.

Don't know how much you know about Geography SK (I trust it's a bit more than you know about manners), but Millwall is in London and some 300 miles away unlike Newcastle and Sunderland who share the same airport and mainline rail station (both in Newcastle). So the possibility of aggro by away fans at that distance is minimal, whereas it is far more likely that aggro could occur at the local level. If you seriously think that Newcastle and Sunderland fans are significantly different in their behaviour then you're ignorance knows no bounds.

The discussion above was talking about the behaviour of Millwall fans at home. Which was in my experience a disgrace. Are you SK, ever going to grow up and contribute to these debates in an adult and intelligent manner? I'm all for excluding you from this board altogether otherwise and regard your contributions as a waste of space on here. Unintelligent, abusive and antagonistic - you have nothing to say unless it's an attempt to rubbish Newcastle fans or wind them up. You have made several personal accusations against me and been roundly defeated every time.

Do you want a piece of fish to go with that chip on your shoulder?

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Show me where i have accused YOU of anything.

But did Newcastle fans wreck the concourse at the ssol last season? yes or no!

And I do have a knowledge of this country due to travelling to over 50 grounds, lots of more than one occasion.

And what is this roundly defeated everytime? Don't talk shit,I have seen no official results.

What is classed as a result in your world? Is it posting a longer missive?

Hold on,I'll think I will claim a result based upon nowt, much in the way you seem to.

As I have said, stick to your pathetic attempts to woo Suzy and leave us lower classes to our own devics .

Been talking to a colleague here, an ex semi-professional who used to play for Ilford and in the US for a bit. He's about 60 now. East End born and bred. Millwall have had a reputation (justified) going right back to when the docks were thriving. In the 50's, the days when 'hooliganism' hadn't been invented, and kids where passed down over peoples heads to the front to sit safely on the grass, dockers at Millwall were going round with their grappling hooks, tearing the gates of the Den down (amongst other things) and deliberately intimidating visitors to the stadium. As has been mentioned above, their disregard for and troublemaking around their own ground is I think unparalleled.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Oh and Jonno,I have shown,do show and will continue to show an ability to mix with Newcastle fans on a good and friendly level.

Indeed most of my mates are of your persuasion.

Can you say the same about Sunderland fans? I don't think so. It seems to be only YOU that has a problem with me on a regular basis.

Whilst I may bump heads with others on here on occasion ,it is usually forgotten about fairly quickly. If you recall I even called into the Strawberry before the match in August for a pint and a chat (before I saw any photos of you lot). Due to not seeing the aforementioned photos I did not meet anyone, but I made the effort. Tell you what. Next time you play down at the ssol, pop into the Fort where I usually drink pre-mtch,I'll recognise you.

Soops is correct Johnno, Biffa boasted on nufc.com that the Geordies vandalised the David Young bar and "liberated" the cash register. There were also all sorts of stories from the catering staff (many of them teenage girls) that they had been verbally abused and spat at by Newcastle fans.

I share your opinion that there is very little between us, but it really disappoints me that no decent Newcastle fans (like those who post on this board) seem to have had the dignity or bottle to stand up to their churlish comrades.

ML³

PS "You're ignorance", "own devics" - am I missing some hidden meaning to this conversation?

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

I Leave a post alone for 12 hours and look what happens.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Just heard on the news that the police are considering sueing Millwall after 50 officers were injured.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

The fact that damage was caused isn't at issue ML3, it's the expression "you lot" as opposed to "your lot". Us lot on greenspun didn't vandalize anything while our lot, nufc fans in general, certainly did. "You lot" is specific.

p.s. "Churlish"? Is that what those Scottish bints were doing in Utah?

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Just a few years ago during the KK period a murder of a Newcastle fan by Sunderland fans was reported in The Sunday Sun. He was apparently followed home after seeing an away game at the pub, and stabbed at his home.

I would not address any Sunderland fan and say "you lot are murderers" on the basis of this story. A couple of years ago some children visiting Sunderland for some reason (by invitation I seem to remember) and wearing Toon tops were abused verbally and physically by Sunderland followers. Do I say that "you lot are child abusers" as a result? No - I'm a lot more objective than that.

You cannot judge people on the basis of isolated incidents and behaviour of the few. This is where SK is stepping out of line with his accusations on here. And I don't say "you lot" make these stupid assumptions as it is only SK who talks such drivel on here.

The atmosphere between Newcastle and Sunderland fans is appalling and I can't see it getting better. Certainly not while a moron like SK comes to friendly forums like this and dishes out abuse. For the record I have campaigned in this forum for friendlier relations with Sunderland fans even prior to Clarky expressing his views on the same subject. But I won't tolerate being accused by SK of being a hypocrite (something he has done twice) and then when asked for evidence he disappears. That's what I meant SK by your being defeated on the issue. If you accuse someone of something and can supply no evidence then your charge is defeated.

And why my very good friend Suzie is brought into this is beyond me. Keep your disreputable ideas to yourself SK and attempt to debate issues with some intelligence and honour. Or just go.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Surely it should be "one's lot"?

And yes, obviously I call it 'soccer'. Obviously. Not sure what you call the game you see at the SoS. Masochism? I must also mince about and wear frilly pink shirts with cycling shorts too. Obviously.

I dunno...do all honest mistakes get treated like this in makem-land?

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Soops are you bored or something? I don`t know what your problem is, but Softie`s quite right, using the expression `you lot` as opposed to `your lot`, puts quite a different slant on what you were saying. `Us` lot are no doubt just as ashamed as `you` lot are of any hooligan elements in either of our respective clubs.

Oh, in answer to the original question.....Not until Hell freezes over.....or am I mixing my threads? (;o)

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

And so another thread is hijacked by. Rather enjoyable really, seeing how a thread can disintergrate into a circus.

Coming soon to a thread near you.

keep up the good work lads'n' lasses (I am being serious here)

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Sk and ML3, Since you start on about destroying facilities in the SoL, I have friends who work in the kiosks at wor place and after the match this season and last they were telling me of how your bunch were shouting abuse and spitting at the people serving themm as well as pulling a TV off the wall. A definite case of glass houses.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

This is bloody daft. The Sunderland fans on here are ashamed of their nutters. The Newcastle fans on here are ashamed of their own nutters. Why they should be arguing amongst themselves about which are the worst nutters is beyond my comprehension. We should be united in condemning the lot of them. Just as we do the nutters at every other club in the league that create the situation around grounds where decent, law abiding folk get body searched and knocked about by coppers in riot gear. Come on lads, chill.

-- Anonymous, May 03, 2002

Well said, miss.

-- Anonymous, May 04, 2002

Right - now you're behaving yourselves, I'll tell you about my funniest ever visit to Millwall.

It was 6 years ago - Millwall v Port Vale Division One. Millwall had signed these two Russian internationals - can't remember their names, Chestikov and Havitov or summat. Anyway, when we arrived the papers down there were full of this - how Vale were just there to make up the numbers and 4-0 was a conservative estimate of the outcome. Full of themselves they were. They were doing this Women for a Quid offer as well - and I got into an argument with the bloke on the turnstile because it did not apply to away supporters. I then got a full body search by some evil looking wench from the Met - complained to her superior, pointing out that Vale fans did not chuck spanners at goalkeepers and wouldn't they be better off using their manpoer elsewhere. Getting angry at this point.

The kick off was delayed - we managed to make it in plenty of time from 160 miles away but the thick cockneys couldn't get across the road on time. They had their biggest crowd of the season. Huge fanfair when the teams came out. Big build up for our Russian cousins. The Vale stuffed 'em. Couldn't stop laughing all the way home!

-- Anonymous, May 04, 2002

Chestikov and Havitov

I remember them well Jacko - Expectorant and Expecting as they became nicknamed by the locals ...

Funny you mention that match. I have spoken to a number of Millwall's most extreme nutters who tell me they would sooner rip their own heads off than attend a match against Port Vale with their fans led by that fearsome woman they saw at the Den once ....

-- Anonymous, May 04, 2002

No wonder they had their biggest gate of the season if they were selling women for a quid.
