How "fancy" a web site is depends, I think, on how the site is being used. If, for example, the site is part of one's professional presentation, then greater effort and better design is essential.

There are numerous Web design tools available, Dreamweaver being one of the most popular among professional web designers. I would avoid Microsoft's FrontPage, however, as there are browser compatibility issues. Many people, including myself, use simple HTML editors for site creation. I use CoffeeCup's HTML editor for working on my primary site, rbarkerphoto.com. It is reasonably priced, has fairly comprehensive features, and allows testing with multiple browsers from within the application.

If you don't need fancy because it is primarily for personal use (as opposed to selling your work), you can make photo thumbnail and large pages using adobe photoshop 6.0 (i don't know if 5.5 did this as well).

I am far from being a professional web designer, but I use Dreamweaver. It is easier, even though I know how to write all of the tml's by my lonesome.

Matthew; PS 7 is a big improvement; try it and you will like it.
