lens test: elmar v. summilux

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

after 16 years of photography i finally made my first lens test.

in the ring: summilux-m 1.4/50mm versus elmar-m 2.8/50mm.

i am no erwin p., so i used the equipment i usually use for my picture taking: leica m6ttl, tri-x @ 400iso in ilford ID11 1+1 for 11 minutes, both pictures taken at f=2.8 on a tripod at a distance of about 2m. i had to crop them a bit otherwise i would give it away, which lens is which. they were scannes with a nikon coolscan IV at full resolution, no photoshop adjustments except resizing were done.

they are definitely different, but who can say which photo was taken by which lens? i'll post the results in a couple of days.

Lens A has smoother bokeh, and slightly more barrel distortion, lens B has ni-san double line type bokeh, looks like from the lux. I have neither, only guessing.
