What body is better?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Dear friends, 1. Could you tell me what body is better: Canon EOS 650 and Canon EOS 300 2. Which is ranged at Semi-pro or Pro class ? Between two bodies, which is often used by the Professional?

Thanks

This is a joke, right?

The EOS 650 was Canon's first autofocus SLR (EOS system). Therefore, as one would expect, the technology is somewhat primitive by today's autofocus standards.

The EOS 300 is Canon's current entry-level autofocus SLR. It is a very capable camera for the beginning to intermediate photographer.

Neither of these would be considered to be semi-pro or pro- class cameras. Not even close. Essentially you've picked the first camera in the EOS historical chronology (EOS 650) and the lowest camera in the current EOS line-up (EOS 300). Professional use? You must be a joker.

Canon considers the EOS 3 and 1V its "pro" bodies, with the Elan 7 (EOS 30) bridging the gap between "consumer" and "pro."

But remember that when the 650 was introduced there was no EOS 1. The 650 basically covered the ground where the Elan 7 and Rebel 2K sit today, I'd say.

Er marketing-wise, that is. Technology-wise, the 650 is closer to the low end. Build-wise, however, the 650 is much tougher and sturdier than most of the consumer/midrange cameras of today. So drawing comparisons to today's more varied lineup is difficult.
