What lens for what body??!?!?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I would like to buy a lens : Canon EF 28-105 U for my camera. But when I go to the Canon shop, the assistant told me that I shouldn't buy that Lens for my Camera because it will ruin each other. I don't know what to do? Can you advise me something? Thanks a lot

If both your camera and lens are Canon FD (manual focus) or EF (EOS autofocus) they should be fully compatible. In that case never go to that shop again since you may seriously doubt their knowledge. OTOH things are different when you're speaking about an EOS lens on an FD body or vice versa. It can be possible to use an FD lens on an EOS body but you need a special adapter and you loose all automation. IMO it's not worth the effort.

If someone tried to tell you that a Canon EF lens will ruin an EOS body then they're trying to scam you in a truly bizarre fashion. Tell the guy he's an idiot and take your business elsewhere.

I'll make three guesses: they recommended a non-Canon brand, it's a camera shop in New York, and they're listed on this page with lots of bad comments: http://www.photo.net/neighbor/one-subcategory? id=2.
