SJP - Where to sit!?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

At the moment I'm 5 rows from the front in the Brown stand.

I am tempted to move to level 7 as it is a lot cheaper. This will allow me to buy cup games more easily.

My ideal seat in terms of a view would be the paddock behind the dugout. (Not the bars) but that small lower tier infront of them. But I rate the atmosphere as much as the view and it is dead around there because of all the suits behind.

Can anyone who sits up in level 7 (leazes) tell me what the atmosphere is like? Is the Brown stand the loudest stand? It's hard to tell because I'm only ever in that seat.

Also does anyone sit in the (east paddock)?

Is it as quiet as I have assumed?

Cheers

In short.

Where do you all sit and what is the atmosphere like?

East Stand, halfway line, 2nd back row. View - fantastic. Atmosphere - not very good.

Gallowgate just in front of the first walkway across the stand and in the middle so positioned just above the crossbar. Superb view of one end - you could see the whites of Lua and Robert's eyes as they gleefully banged in their goals yesterday.

Atmosphere not bad relatively speaking (although overall at SJP atmosphere is slipping). Major disadvantage being sat next to Dougal is having one side of the body heavily bruised if the match is a bit of a nailbiter.

Leazes end, about 1/2 way up and just to the left of the goal as you're looking at the pitch...actually almost directly opposite Jonno and Dougal, but about 15-20 rows higher up. Great view, ok atmosphere, good craic from the folks around me. At least, that's my impression from the handful of matches I'm actually there for each season. :-)

I used to sit in the Gallowgate on the first tier behind the goal - great seat. I stupidly gave it up so a few of us could move to be together when they built the extension. We ended up on Level 7 and I really regret moving. Fantastic views but the play seems miles away so you don't get that feeling of being totally involved. You get to see offside better than the linesman though!

The atmosphere isn't bad as it's not too far from the away supporters so there's a bit of carry on.

I'd stay where you are.

Leazes level 7, 1/3 of the way back, left of centre on goal. Superb view, just like Subbuteo. You cannot make out facial expressions but there are few better views for making out both width and the length of passing. Atmosphere is only quiet when the whole ground is dead and I would contend (having sat all around the ground at various times) that it probably boasts the best atmosphere due to proximity to away fans. There is nearly always some chanting going on for those who want to join in. I imagine it's not quite so much fun right at the back, however, or off at the sides, but front and central is great and has a much better view (and more leg-room) than the back of the lower level (now the family section) which has a lower elevation giving you a more truncated view of the pitch and a poor idea of what happens down the Gallowgate end. imo of course.

I'm in the SJH corner right below the away supporters so it's pretty noisy! Also just below the TV box so can stick my fingers up at Des, Ally, 'Tache, Vegetables and Richard "Hairy" Keys. View OK and can see the build-up pretty well. I canalways see the offsides better than the linesmen, irrespective of where I sit. Atmosphere from "wor lot" not bad, but probably not as good as near Jonno/Dougal. I wouldn't move up to level 7 (unless they install a Stannah Stairlift and provide oxygen on every landing). Very rarely featured on crowd shots :-(

Milburn Level 7 , level with 18yd box leazes side. Great view good atmoshphere cos your near the away fans . but GET A LIFT PASS theres 186 steps to my seat .
I also have access to a seat in the front , 2nd row back inbetween 18 yd box and halfway line (just infront of steph). good seat close to the action, but imho too close. once the ball goes to the other side of the pitch u cant see the action just bloomin ankles. KB

I can't understand Lynda's point. Surely we can all see the offsides better than the linesman? :-)

Atmosphere is generally great up in L7, much better than lower down.

Milburn paddock, 3 rows off the pitch and about a dozen seats from the away dugout. Great seat for abusing away managers and being really close to the action. You can hear the players shouting and they can hear you! However not so good when the play is on the other side of the pitch and the atmosphere is generally poor. Mixture of canny folk and w*nkers who go out during the first half for a pie!

Family Enclosure, half way up Leazes End, some right kids in there, and they've been together for a couple of years now and are starting to learn to sing, and heckle.

Used to be crossbar level on 6 yard line at Leazes end, dead atmosphere, bunch of moaners apart fomr one nutter who may well end up merdering someone one day.

Milburn Level 7, row J, just about level with the Leazes penalty spot. Overall view great, if a bit foreshortened, but don't ask me to identify even our players, let alone the opposition.

Milburn level 7 between half way line and Gallowgate penalty box. the view is fantastic, atmosphere ok. Is it really cheaper than elsewhere, my ticket cost £498 ?

-- Anonymous, April 29, 2002

Leazes level 7 is the cheapest. Milburn level 7 is slightly more expensive than the Milburn paddock.

I'm in the East stand row K and my seat will cost £499. If your paying that for level 7 I would complain personally. You'll never get the experiance like I did of watching Shearer goad Keane (Roy) into earning himself a red card. What happy days.
