Faux Anyone?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

Found this pretty good faux site. Also I'd like to learn how to paint flowers and vegetation on wood mostly. Know any how to web sites or good learning books?....Kirk

I haven't looked for websites on faux painting, but I have some interesting books on the subject.

Paint Magic, by Jocasta Innes which covers all kinds of trompe l'oeil, dragging, stencilling, varnishing, glazing, making faux tortise-shell, marble, malachite, bamboo, Japaning, and so forth.

Recipes for Surfaces -- Decorative Paint Finishes Made Simple by Mindy Drucker and Pierre Finkelstein. Mostly surface treatments such as ragging, dragging, sponging, splatter finishes, stippling, marbling, wiping, etc.

Decorating Magic, by John Sutcliffe. Mostly wall treatments, but still different from the other two.

I also have a folder chuck full of different catalogues from stencil companies, altho they are not as artistic as doing it freehand yourself. If you're interested, I can post the names of the companies. I don't know if they are on-line tho. Some of them are getting into trompe l'oeil stenciling.
